On the occasion of the International Love Data Week 2025, on the theme “Whose Data Is It, Anyway?”, DaSCH team addresses the question of the ownership and use of data.
Data is often collected by different groups - researchers, governments, companies and organizations - who may own, share, publish or combine it with other datasets. This theme reminds us to consider where data comes from before using it.
Discover how DaSCH tackled the challenges of collecting and organizing diverse data related to the beloved story “Alice in Wonderland“ for their example project Alice in DaSCHland. Along the way, they faced complex questions:
Is this data free of rights?
Who are the rightful authors or owners?
How do we take care of the data responsibly?
Through this project, they’ll explore real-world issues of data ownership, copyright, and ethical usage, offering insights into the intricacies of working with cultural and creative data.
Follow them down the rabbit hole!
